Angel Food: Low-cost food boxes available to all

If you'd like to save money on your grocery bill in July, consider buying a box of food from Angel Food Ministries.

The offer is open to everyone through this nonprofit, nondenominational group - you don't have to provide any kind of income information about yourself.  Just order a box and pick it up when it's ready.  

Pick-up locations are available across the nation.  Click here to find one near you.

What's in the boxes?

One box of food contains about a week's worth of groceries for a family of four, or about a month's worth for a single senior citizen, according to the group's website. The boxes contain a variety of food fresh, canned and frozen items and run anywhere from $22 to $55.  A few examples of what's available this month (Click here to view a PDF of the entire July menu):

$22 - Bit O'Blessing Box:
  • 2 lb. Gourmet Dining Chicken Stir Fry
  • 1.75 lb. fully cooked breaded chicken wings
  • 1.5 lb. fully cooked meatballs
  • 1.5 lb. fully cooked breakfast sausage links
  • 2 lb. diced sweet potatoes
  • 1 lb. waffle fries
  • 2 x 1.5 lb units of fruit medley
  • Flavored rice mix
  • Hawaiian sweet rolls

$26 - July Special #1  - 6 lb. Assorted Grill Box:
  • 2 lb. sirloin strip steaks, 4 x 8 oz.
  • 2 lb. 80/20 hamburgers, 4 x 8 oz.
  • 2 lb. boneless/skinless chicken breasts, 8 x 4 oz.

$24 - July Special #3 - Premium Frest Fruit and Veggie Box
  • 4 ears yellow corn
  • 2 yellow squash
  • 2 zucchini squash
  • 1 head of green cabbage
  • 2 lb. yellow onions
  • 4 baking potatoes
  • 1 lb. whole carrots
  • 1 stalk sleeved celery
  • 1 golden ripe pineapple

  • 3 lb. (avg) Boneless/skinless chicken breast tray pack - 2 x 1.5 lb. avg.
  • 3 lb. (approx) 8 fully cooked 1/4 lb. hamburgers on sesame seed buns (ind. wrapped). 2 bacon cheese, 3 cheese and 3 plain.
  • 2 lb. non-breaded, IQF large chicken wings
  • 2 lb. fettucini alfredo with whie meat chicken
  • 1.5 lb. bone-in pork chops, 6 x 4 oz.
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef 80/20
  • 1 lb. Kraft Deli-Style turkey loaf, unsliced
  • 1 lb. 100% ground chicken
  • 4 lb. (approx) Nestle Boil-in-Bag Macaroni and Cheese (8 x 7.7 oz. or 6 x 10 oz.)

Angel Food Ministries has now closed down. Some of the former employees are trying to find a way to reopen, but as it stands now, AFM won't be distributing anymore.
